We (as in "the translation team") have decided to open up the forum for non-English-speakers. We have been analyzing statistics to see how many people from which country visit HFE. The winner is Poland, so the first board we are going to create will be a Polish zone.
Now, this is a question about layouts. Nobody that does not join the Polish group (which will be created soon) will be able to see anything posted in there, not even the forums themselves. The deal is this: shall we have the forum layout similar for every language (one block empire-zone, one block HF-zone, etc) or different (as illustrated below, one block for one language)?

I think that we need to make them invisible and let people join seperate language groups.
I don't want to see Poland posts in overview, but maybe Poland people want that... So in this case we need to do what I said above.
Thanks
i tend to the second option: Every language has the same amount of blocks
I think some guys got this wrong: if you want to see more languages you have to join a usergroup. If you're not in this group you don't even see the forums - doesnt matter how many blocks we have
And the problem with one block each language is simple: it's not clear. If you've the HF Zone as forum and the char discusion as subforum and the general hf discussion as subforum you can see new posts only in the HF Zone which is now a forum - if you want to see new forums especially in the other subforums you have to click on the forum - so more click work
beside: you can also ake threads in the "hf zone" itsself - because the zone is now a forum...
This is really not clear in my opinion
So every guy who want to see a forum in another language later should vote for the second option
beside this I've another idea and I'm searching for a technical realisation:
if you register you have "registered" as usergroup - you cansee empire zone, hf and general and disposal. empire zone and disposal is english only. Leaving the other two zones.
My plan is that when you register you also join the "english group" automatically - and the english group can see the english hf zone and english general zone. Now you've the choice: if you speak english everything is fine. If you speak english and german you can also join the german group and see german hf and general zone additional...
if you only speak german you can join the german and leave the english one - you don't see english hf and general zone but the german one - and still the english empire zone. You know I want the empire zone in english because I want to understand the problems myself.
Ok this is the plan for now - last point: announcements: BP thought of a translation for the announcements - good idea. In this case I would suggest subforums in empire zone / announcements for each language - and of cause you only see the german announcement forum if you joined the german group (english is default, they wont see additional stuff
got the idea? hope you like it and vote for option 2
EDIT: The technical point is solved - new users register and have the secondary (and optional) english usergroup - so they can also hide the english hf and general zone
Every language should have exactly the same number of blocks.
However, for convenience, each language is separated into separate forums, made invisible or something like that. I mean, if I only speak one language, I'd be very frustrated to have to scroll through many blocks just to find the one forum section which has my language.
Also, I won't be surprised there are multi-lingual people.
well, that's exactly what i explained - every language have two blocks - hf zone and general zone, empire zone (and disposal) is in english only.
You can join and leave every group you want (and we have). So if you have ploish and english you have two hf zones and two general zones

but why? everyone speaks english!and im hungarian, so there will be hungarian zone too? :-/
I think this failed.
As I know, there won't be any other language forums, because Poland failed hard.
So yea...

Well, at least the forum sure is dead.
Hey hey, is there a Chinese HF forum that's...more active? ^^
I think this will become more active when Marti'll release new version.
Why often I'm the last one enthusiastic?
you arent
I told to marti yesterday about the progess - he told me he has a lot of problems with the network mode and is busy with fixing this. Once the game engine and network mode is done he can just make new stuff - which is more fun ofc
With the language zones: I`ll make them when we`ve enough members for a zone - but this will take a while. HFE isnt popular enough yet...
